This is the new Central Iowa Regional Public Safety Communications System (CIRPSCS), digitially trunked radio system, which will replace the legacy 800 MHz trunking system from RACOM that is currently in use. As the system is built-out, users in Polk County will be cutover to the new radio system. Eventually, the old EDACS legacy system will become less active. When completed, this new Harris P25ip TRS will provide 97% portable radio coverage across Polk County.

The Central Iowa Regional Public Safety Communications System (CIRPSCS), is a public-private partnership that encompasses subscribers from local, state, and federal government agencies and the RACOM Corp. In the future, other counties across the region will likely join this Project 25 radio system. The system will be maintained by RACOM, and the main P25 switch is located at their network operations center in Marshalltown, Iowa. Likewise, there is a redundant backup P25 switch at the RACOM facility in Madison, South Dakota.
