Most ambulances in the province are now using Motorola CDM-1550 radios. These organize the channels in 10 Zones of 16 channels each, similar to Channel Banks in a scanner. The channel display is 14 character Alphanumeric. Programming for Zones 1 through 8 are consistent throughout the province with the exception of Greater Vancouver and possibly Victoria. Zone 9 utilizes channels from Zones 1 through 3, but organizes them according to the area of operation. Example: Zone 9 from a Kamloops radio is programmed with: Merrit, Vernon, Chase, Kamloops, Ashcroft, Barriere, and Clearwater operating channels. Zone 9 from a Kelowna radio is programmed with: Midway, Penticton, Westbank, Kelowna, Merritt, Princeton, and Vernon operating channels. Zone 10 is for alternate agencies. Typically, Fire Department, RCMP, Search and Rescue, etc for the area of operation. A Kelowna area radio has: Kelowna RCMP, Kelowna FD, Peachland FD, Joe Rich FD, Winfield FD, Westbank FD, Big White FD and Alpine Helicopters in this Zone.
