Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge
Balcones Canyonlands is a national wildlife refuge located in the Texas Hill Country to the northwest of Austin. The refuge was formed in 1992 to conserve habitat for two endangered songbirds including the golden-cheeked warbler and the black-capped vireo and to preserve Texas Hill Country habitat for numerous other wildlife species. The refuge augments a similarly named preserve in Austin called the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve.

Texas Interagency Coordination Center
The Texas Interagency Coordination Center (TICC), located in Lufkin, is a cooperative effort of the Texas A&M Forest Service, the US Fish & Wildlife Service, the US Forest Service, the National Park Service, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Texas Parks & Wildlife and the Nature Conservancy.
Since opening in 1998, TICC has mobilized more than 60,000 emergency response personnel and hundreds of aircraft and pieces of equipment from all over the United States to support disaster relief efforts in Texas.
Fire weather forecasts, fire risk assessments and drought indices are some of the tools that may assist in critical decisions; volunteer fire departments will benefit from the services described under the FD Assistance link and the state-wide mutual aid plan is readily available.
Angelina National Forest
Angelina National Forest is located in East Texas in parts of San Augustine, Angelina, Jasper and Nacogdoches counties. It is managed together with the three other National Forests in Texas (Davy Crockett, Sabine, and Sam Houston) from Forest Service offices in Lufkin, Texas

Sam Houston National Forest

It is a highly biodiverse area for a temperate region, that has been described as "America's Ark" and the "Biological Crossroads of North America". It is located near Kountze Texas
Lake Meredith National Recreation Area
Lake Meredith National Recreation Area is located about 30 miles north of Amarillo in the town of Fritch, in the Texas Panhandle. The main attraction of the recreation area is 10,000-acre Lake Meredith, an artificial reservoir created by Sanford Dam on the Canadian River
